“Her World In Colors” is a short comic intended to portray the emotions and pressure that come with transitioning. Transitioning can refer to many things. For some, transitioning in life means taking the next step to reach adulthood. For others, transitioning may mean altering yourself to align with your true identity. This short comic will explore how gender roles are pushed onto people from a young age and can potentially lead to an identity crisis. The lead character, Z sees the world through a monochromatic lens. As long as Z’s hypermasculine father continues to pressure Z to become the “perfect man,” Z’s perspective on life will be clouded by a black and white filter. Z has always seen themself as someone else in the mirror: someone, more like their older sisters. Throughout the short story, Z will begin to challenge gender roles and societal expectations in order to bring their true inner self out. By the end, Z will have fully transitioned into the woman she always wanted to become and will finally see her world in color.
